Life for anyone who works day-in and day-out on a computer can become kind of – well – lethargic… You spend most of your day staring at a monitor for hours on end and tend to hunch over more in a week than doing any kind of good-for-you stretch.

I’ve done this to myself, everyone has, and it ends up burning me up inside so much that I quickly just have to get out of the house and away from the computer! But as healthy humans, it’s important to make time for the great outdoors.

Sun is good for you, sunscreen provided; and your eyeballs need a rest from the shiny bright monitor lights. Not only for your physical well-being but for your creative mind. You need a break – like simply walking in the park, while you sweat a little, and visualizing the beautiful world we live in. Inspirations come from everyday life and if you’re on the computer all day, you’re missing it!

Here are a few “Must Do’s” for those who work from home or just sit on a computer most of their day:

  • When you wake up, make a plan. A plan to eat three good meals, munch on some healthy snacks during work, and set up a work-out sometime throughout the day.
  • Take a break. Don’t beat your head over the computer. Sometimes the monitor can drive you mad. So simply get up, go out to the yard, and sit down while basking in the sun. Even just 15 minutes of this can rearrange your mindset and get you back on track.
  • Work out! It’s important to have energy, especially when most of the day you are sitting down. Go for a run, join a cross-fit team, or just grab a friend and do some at-home pilates or yoga. Anything that stretches your muscles and cools down your mind is definitely going to help your work days.
  • Try buying a video game that doesn’t involve a controller. The XBox Kinect or Nintendo Wii counsels have plenty of fun movement games. Although you’re staring at a bigger screen still, your mind is in a playful state; and where there is laughter, there is relaxation!

There’s no reason to feel stuck. You’re job is on the computer, not your life. Make a plan and stick to it. Work out, dance, take a breather – do something that will get your endorphins going. It’s healthy and won’t make you look like the hunchback of notre dame. So now, get up and enjoy the day!
